Frantz Fanon (1925-1961)

Frantz Fanon was a psychiatrist, philosopher, and revolutionary thinker from Martinique. He is best remembered for his pioneering work on the psychological impact of colonisation and racism. His book Black Skin, White Masks remains a cornerstone in understanding how identity, oppression, and mental health are deeply connected.
Fanon’s legacy challenges us to see mental health through a cultural and social lens — something that continues to shape counselling and mental health services today.
